Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”

In 1843 Charles Dickens published A Christmas Carol, which would become one of his most famous books. It’s about a wealthy old man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is very selfish and unkind. As a young man, Scrooge was happy and generous, but as he grew older and wealthier, he became less concerned with others, more demanding of his employees, and in particular, he became bitter about Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, Scrooge falls asleep and is visited by three ghosts. They are the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present, and the ghost of Christmas future. Each ghost takes Scrooge on a journey on which he observes different people in his life. He is able to hear what they say about him, and he is shocked at what he sees and hears.

Sit back and listen, as Scrooge has a night that will change his life forever.
